Fund Internship Program (FIP)

Do you know that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has an internship program known as the Fund Internship Program (FIP), and that eligible applicants who get admitted for doing such internship are offered a lot of benefits ? The benefits include but are not limited to : a competitive salary, round-trip restricted economy class air travel from the university of the participant to Washington, D.C, and  limited medical insurance coverage.

During the summer internship, interns gain an insider’s view of the member-country-focused mandate and critical international work of the IMF. Participants will build professional networks while applying their analytical and research skills in order to help in exploring questions of real importance to the IMF member countries and to economic stability at the global level. Whether you see a future for yourself in international organizations or are simply curious about operational and policy work, this is a great opportunity for familiarizing yourself with both while expanding your research experience and leveraging your cutting-edge skills.

The recruitment for the Fund Internship Program is done on a global basis with about Fifty students getting recruited from various countries in order to join the IMF  every year at IMF headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Important Dates

The internship is carried out  between June and October and lasts  for 10 to 12 weeks.

Who Should Apply

For the Economic internship, candidates should have concentrated their studies on monetary and international economics, economics, financial markets, public finance, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have strong quantitative and analytical skills and possess an excellent command of oral and written English.

If you are currently finishing a PhD, you must be:

Registered as an active student (i.e. returning to university studies after finishing the internship), and being below the age of 32 at the commencement of the internship.

For those currently finishing a master’s degree, the candidate must be:

Registered as an active student at the application time (not yet graduated), and being below the age of 28 at the beginning of the internship.

For applying to the Legal Department Internship,  the candidate must be:

Within 1 to 2 years of completing an LLM, J.D, or equivalent advanced degree in law , and being below the age of 32 at the beginning of the internship.

Applications for the FIP is generally open in early December. Interested people are welcome for to submit applications for the Fund Internship Program at that time by visiting the IMF’s vacancy postings on the IMF Career Site.
