Benefits

The Bartlett Promise Sub-Saharan Africa Master’s Scholarship is for covering:

❶a flight ticket to/from the UK, UK Study Visa costs, 

❷Master’s programme application fee costs

❸Full overseas tuition fees,

❹An allowance for covering study and living expenses (£15,364) for the normal period of the program at UCL, 

 ❺The National Health Service (NHS) health supplement charge in the United Kingdom. 

❻English language assessment fees,

❼health test fees, 

❽All Promise scholars will also get on-going academic and career support during the duration of their study.

Eligibility Criteria for September 2022 intake

Eligible candidates are nationals of a Bartlett approved list of Sub-Saharan African countries (i.e. Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Republic of Congo, Cote D’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe) doing a Bartlett master’s program.

The Bartlett Promise is for enabling students from backgrounds which are underrepresented in The Bartlett, to do postgraduate studies at The Bartlett, UCL’s Faculty of the Built Environment.  Candidates for the The Bartlett Promise Sub-Saharan African scholarship need to meet these requirements:

❶Not holding a British or dual British citizenship

❷Being in financial need as assessed by UCL (i.e.  assessed household income which is less than £42,875).

❸Being a national of one of The Bartlett’s approved list of Sub-Saharan African countries and resident in an eligible Sub-Saharan African country.

❹Having an admission offer to a Bartlett master’s program for study commencing in the academic year 2022/23 which is either unconditional or conditional only on English language

Additionally, due consideration will be given to applicants meeting any of these conditions:

►Being a forced migrant [i.e. refugee, asylum seeker or those who have been granted a temporary form of leave as the result of an asylum or human rights application (e.g., discretionary leave to remain, UASC leave, limited leave to remain, humanitarian protection)].

►Being the first generation in the family to attend university at undergraduate level

►Being the first generation in family to go to the university at postgraduate level 

It is important to note that eligibility criteria for 2023/24 and beyond may be different.

Important Dates

The deadline for the submission of application for the Bartlett Promise is April 18, 2022, 23.45 BST.

Please note that if you do not have an offer of admission by April 18, 2022, you will be unable to submit your application for a Bartlett Promise Scholarship. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you consider applying for this scholarship program early next year.
