TWAS-ICCBS Postgraduate Fellowship Programme

For candidates from developing countries other than Pakistan, there is a fellowship program known as the TWAS-ICCBS Postgraduate Fellowship Programme, which finances important expenses for pursuing doctoral research works in Pakistan as outlined in this article.

The International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) including the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry and the Dr. Panjwani Centre for Molecular and Drug Research in Karachi, Pakistan — and TWAS award fellowships to young scientists from developing countries other than Pakistan who wish to do their research works towards a PhD in chemical and biological sciences.

Benefits and Duration

▶ The TWAS-ICCBS Postgraduate Fellowship may be offered for a minimum period of 6 months and a maximum period to be decided with ICCBS.

▶ ICCBS will provide a monthly stipend which should be used for covering living costs, like food, local transportation, incidental minor illness, and accommodation. It is important to note that the monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency.

Who Should Apply?

Eligible candidates are those meeting the following conditions:

① Having a maximum age of 35 years on 31 December of the application year.

② Being nationals of a developing country (other than Pakistan);

③ Not holding any visa for temporary or permanent residency in Pakistan or any developed country;

④ Holding a Master’s degree in a field of natural sciences;

⑤ Providing a certificate of good health from a qualified medical doctor;

⑥ Being registered PhD students in their home country and provide the “Registration and No Objection Certificate” from the HOME university;

⑦ Providing an official Preliminary Acceptance Letter from ICCBS. Requests for acceptance must be directed to the Director of ICCBS (Prof. M.I. Choudhary at iqbal.choudhary@iccs.edu, hej@cyber.net.pk or pcmd@cyber.net.pk or protocol.iccbs@iccs.edu) who will facilitate assignment of a host supervisor. In contacting Prof. Choudhary, applicants must accompany their request for a preliminary acceptance letter with copy of their curriculum vitae and a research proposal outline and 2 reference letters;

⑧ Not taking up other assignments during the period of her/his fellowship;

⑨ Being financially responsible for any accompanying family members.

⑩ Providing evidence that s/he will return to his/her home country on completion of the fellowship;

⑪ Providing evidence of proficiency in English, if medium of education was not English.

Important Dates
