Graduate Research Scholarships at the University of Melbourne

Benefits

The scholarships benefits include general allowance, and fee remission (i.e. total value equal to 100% fee remission and up to $110,000). You can check details about the full benefit here.

Please keep in mind that there are variations for the scholarship offered at the University of Melbourne and the scholarship package varies accordingly.

❶For the fee offset scholarships, benefits include:

▶ Full fee offset for up to 2 years for students doing a Masters by Research degree or up to 4 years for those who undertake a doctoral degree.

❷Regarding the stipend and fee offset scholarships, benefits include the following:

Living allowance: $32,400/year pro rata (this is the 2022 full-time study rate) for up to 2 years for students doing a Masters by Research degree or up to 3.5 years for those doing a doctoral degree. The living allowance may be indexed every year and comprises limited paid sick, parenting and maternity leave.

Full fee offset: up to 2 years for students pursuing a Masters by Research degree or up to 4 years for those doing a doctoral degree.

▶ Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership for foreign students requiring a student visa for studying in Australia.

Relocation grant: $2000 for students relocating from States or Territories other than Victoria or $3000 for those who move from outside Australia.

Who Should Apply?

Qualified applicants for the Graduate Research Scholarships at the University of Melbourne need to meet the following eligibility requirements:

Citizenship: Australian / domestic student, international student

▶ Having applied for and meeting the entry criteria for a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne, or being a current student (enrolled) in a graduate research degree at the same university.

Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRS): Offered to high-achieving international and domestic students doing a Masters by Research degree or doctoral degree.

Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships: Awarded by the Australian Commonwealth Government to high-achieving international and domestic students doing a Masters by Research degree or Doctorate by Research degree. Important Dates and How to Apply

For a new student who has applied for a graduate research course by the application deadline for that course, he/she will be automatically taken into consideration for the Graduate Research Scholarships.

A candidate who has accepted a graduate research course offer and deferred commencement for being reconsidered for a scholarship, he/she must submit an online application form by October 31 in order to be taken into consideration for a scholarship in the next year. 

For a currently enrolled student in a graduate research course for which he/she seeks a scholarship, he/she needs to submit an online application form by October 31 for being taken into consideration for a scholarship in the next year.
